A 60-day voyage around Australia was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an older lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the vessel were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".
